Co-Lin concert band selected to perform at festival in Chicago

Co-Lin’s Concert Band has been selected to perform at the Percy Grainger Wind Band Festival in Chicago, IL in March of 2019. The honor comes after Co-Lin Director of Bands Juanita Proffitt was invited to submit recordings of the band to be considered for participation. Recordings were then judged by a panel of expert conductors and music educators. Co-Lin was one of only four bands chosen to perform at the annual event in Chicago.

“Being selected for this event is a high honor and allows our students to have the amazing opportunity to perform outstanding musical composition at an annual world-class event,” said Proffitt. “In addition to the performance, our band students will have numerous other educational and cultural experiences in Chicago.”

The 10th annual Percy Grainger Wind Band Festival will feature four outstanding wind ensembles performing Percy Grainger literature in Chicago’s Historic Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center. Prior to the performance, students will participate in a band clinic session with Dr. Mallory Thompson, Director of Bands and coordinator of the conducting program at Northwestern University in Chicago.

Percy Grainger is known as a pianist and a composer of piano music. Grainger also composed literature for winds, with an emphasis on saxophone. He wrote a series of “Hillsongs,” arranged many Scottish folk songs, and is best known for his wind band masterpiece, Lincolnshire Posy- which is based on a collection of folksongs Grainger collected in Lincolnshire, England.
