The Smart Start credential is designed to help students gain the skills they need to be successful in today’s economy. The program prepares students for middle-skill jobs such as machinists, registered nurses, computer technicians, medical assistants, and a host of other opportunities by helping them learn and practice good work habits and the effective communications skills you need to secure meaningful employment. Smart Start students are prepared to take the WorkKeys test, which includes: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents, which qualifies students for the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). Employers seek candidates with an NCRC regardless of the candidate’s educational background. The certificate signals to employers that students have the skills necessary to be effective in a job. The Smart Start program can be completed in two ways:
Online:
- Requires 30 clock hours of participation
- Three campus visits for proctored assessments: pre-assessment, post-assessment & NCRC
- Participation may begin immediately by requesting enrollment via professional email to: graves.grant@colin.edu
Face-to-Face:
- Requires 45 clock hours of attendance
- Participation requires prior enrollment by reserving a seat via professional email to graves.grant@colin.edu or by calling 601.643.8653
- Location: Co-Lin Wesson Campus Adult Education Office, 2nd Floor, Mutton Building
- Attendance is required for all class sessions:
- Monday-Thursday 2-4 p.m.
- Friday 8:30-11:30 a.m.
