Division of Associate Degree Nursing

General Information and Mission

The philosophy, purpose, and outcomes of the nursing program reflect those of the parent institution, Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The Division of Associate Degree Nursing is designed to advance the overall purpose of the college by providing educational opportunities to qualified students for a career in nursing. The mission/purpose of the Division of Associate Degree Nursing Program is to provide a student-centered educational milieu consisting of quality instruction and high expectations to residents from the college service area and beyond who seek to become registered nurses. Graduates of the program are prepared to function at entry-level positions as providers of care, managers of care, and members within the discipline of nursing.

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program at Copiah-Lincoln Community College began in fall 1994. Each spring applicants are screened for admission, and a new freshman class ranging from 50 to 60 students starts each fall. The two-year program (four semesters) awards the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing.

Accreditation

The Associate Degree Nursing Program is accredited by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning of Mississippi (3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS 39211, (601) 432-6486, www.mississippi.edu/nursing) and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, Georgia 30326; Phone 404-975-5000; Fax 404-975-5020; www.acenursing.org). Graduates that meet the requirements of the State Board of Nursing are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX^®-RN).
